A Bit About Me

Sarah BACP

Hi, I’m Sarah, and I’m a qualified cognitive behavioural therapist and groupwork facilitator.

I come from a family of folk who work in mental health and have always had a keen interest in psychology.  I bring experience from working in many different sectors to my practice: from working within local council offices supporting people through housing and benefit claims; to call centres; hospitality; further education and a lengthy career in the arts and live events.

I started working in the arts with the ambitious hope that it could help change the world or at least open people up to a view outside their own.  I still believe in this, but I wanted to work more directly with people to support them through life’s ups and downs, so I trained to be a therapist.  I know first-hand how important it is to look after your mental health when you have a pressured work environment, as well as going from project to project with no security.

Working with and supporting young adults in further education, I gained an understanding of how it can be a challenging time for many young adults as they navigate academic pressures, financial responsibilities, and newfound independence. These stressors can take a toll on their mental health, leading to feelings of anxiety, depression, and overwhelm as they strive to meet academic and personal expectations while also managing their well-being.

My tapestry of experiences has instilled in me a profound understanding of the varied paths of life and inspired my journey into therapy, driven by a commitment to providing a non-judgmental and supportive environment where individuals will unravel the challenges they face.  My aim is to guide individuals towards self-understanding and self-compassion, fostering meaningful and positive change through a collaborative and empowering process. We explore various techniques together, drawing from evidence-based tools and resources tailored to your comfort and pace. This may involve delving into your past to illuminate present struggles, examining family dynamics and core beliefs, or developing practical skills to enhance well-being in the present moment.

Outside of 1-2-1 therapy, each week, I support a mental health chat café in the Southside of Glasgow.  Every Monday, a different mix of people come together to discuss their week, but also mental health needs that may have come up.  Some are regulars who have been coming for years, some come for one night only, and some are somewhere in the middle of that.  Please get in touch if you are interested in joining us!
